Recite Pregnancy Journey Guide
A new pregnancy information resource, co-created by women with lived experience of childbirth while seeking asylum, has been launched to help improve access to maternity care and support for migrant women across Liverpool.
The "Pregnancy Journey" guide has been developed by the ReCITE Creative Influencers group in partnership with local health organisations. It provides clear, easy-to-understand information about every stage of pregnancy, from registering with a GP and booking maternity appointments to preparing for birth and caring for a new-born.
The resource aims to address health inequalities by helping women understand what support is available, including interpretation services, travel reimbursement for appointments, access to vaccinations, antenatal classes and infant feeding support. It also reassures women that healthcare records are confidential and that they can access NHS care regardless of immigration status.
Alongside practical advice, the guide features tips and encouragement from women with lived experience, helping expectant mothers feel informed, supported and confident throughout their pregnancy journey.
