Your Flu Vaccination is Ready to Book: Protect Yourself This Winter
Brownlow Health has begun inviting eligible patients to book their free flu vaccination for the 2026/27 winter season.
Invitations for children aged 2 to 3 years have now been sent, and appointments are available to book through the invitation received or by contacting your local practice. Invitations for adults aged 65 and over and patients with eligible long-term health conditions will be sent from the week commencing 14 September 2026.
The flu vaccine remains the best protection against seasonal flu and can help prevent serious illness, particularly among those most at risk.
Who is eligible?
This year's programme includes:
- Children aged 2 to 3 years
- Adults aged 65 and over
- Patients with eligible long-term health conditions or weakened immune systems
Helping Children Stay Well This Winter
Children aged 2 and 3 years are eligible for a free nasal flu vaccine (Fluenz).
This quick, needle-free vaccine is given as a gentle spray into the nose and helps protect children from flu and its complications, including bronchitis and pneumonia. It also helps reduce the spread of flu to family members and the wider community.
The nasal spray vaccine is safe, effective and administered by trained healthcare professionals. Most children only experience mild side effects, such as a temporary runny or blocked nose.

Adults Aged 65 and Over
If you are aged 65 or over, you are eligible for a free flu vaccination through your GP practice.
Flu can cause serious complications in older adults, particularly those with underlying health conditions. Vaccination significantly reduces the risk of severe illness, hospital admission and complications during the winter months.
Patients aged 75 and over may also be eligible for a COVID-19 booster vaccination, which can be given at the same appointment.
Benefits of vaccination
- Helps protect against serious illness from flu
- Reduces the risk of hospitalisation
- Helps protect family, friends and carers
- Provides added protection during the winter season
Patients with Long-Term Health Conditions
People living with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, chronic respiratory disease, kidney disease or weakened immune systems are also eligible for a free flu vaccination.
For these patients, flu can lead to more serious complications and longer recovery times. Getting vaccinated is the most effective way to reduce your risk and help you stay well throughout winter.
Why get vaccinated?
- Lowers your risk of catching flu and developing complications
- Helps protect vulnerable family members and those around you
- Supports your overall health and wellbeing during winter
